Halfway to Heaven is Brantley Gilberts second studio album. This album was released in 2010 and has sold 783,000 copies already. I really enjoy Brantley's music because of his background, his style of music, and lyrics.
Brantley was born and raised in the small town of Jefferson, Georgia, right outside of the city limits. He grew up in a small town like I was born and raised in. Brantley was ignoring his ambition of becoming a country singer up until he was in an almost fatal car accident a little over five years ago. Before forming with his new band Brantley worked and traveled around playing with Corey Smith. Brantley continued to follow Corey for three years after his accident, which made him to decide to start a career as a musician.
Brantley was in a near fatal car accident at the age of 19. He had been drinking and was on his way back to his hometown, where he ran off the road and hit a tall patch of grass. His truck flipped five or six times end over end before smashing into an oak tree. He was ejected out of his back window and was flipped ten to fifteen feet in the air before he amazingly landed on his feet. Add to all of this the first civilian on the scene would soon die afterwards in their own car accident. His mother which is a real Christian lady told Brantley he was not lucky he was blessed. That's when Brantley decided to start his music career.

Brantley's style in music changed much as he grew up. His taste in music always swayed toward a southern country rock feel. His true life testimony of heartache, trials, triumph, and success found a home in country music. His style of music is the style of music that I listen to daily. This style of music is the type of music any small country town lives by. This style always has songs for all the good and fun times. We usually have our own stories to tell about for some of the songs that we listen to.
Brantley's lyrics always tell stories to me. No matter if it is about country young boys, drinking, or even loosing loved ones, his lyrics always tell some kind of story. After all that he has been through he writes most of his songs by his past. He now knows that tomorrow is not guaranteed and he lives each day to the fullest. In his song "Halfway to Heaven" he explains the night of his car crash and how he almost lost his life that night. He says in the song he had never seen his dad cry like that. He even says he would start hanging out with his little brother and would not miss another game.
"There's a live oak tree you can still see off ol 129
you can see the scars its missin bark
where it stopped my truck that night
they say I took a swing at my best friend
for tryin to take my keys
next thing I knew I was upside down
thinkin this is it for me"
His song "Them Boys" he is talking about young country boys. He tells how much they get in trouble and do not have a care in the world. They act like grown men's hands don't shake and little girls hearts don't break. This is a good example on how all small towns are. The young boys do not have a care in the world except for what they want to do. Once they get out of that stage they turn into great young men.
Some of Brantley's songs can bring you to tears but that is because he writes about true life. I absolutely love Brantley's music. His songs always seem to make his fans feel like they are apart of his life also. He has got to be one of my favorite artists and this album is one of my most favorite albums ever.
